Grass can be grown with the help of seeds. In fact, it is much
easier to grow grass with the help of seed then growing it with
sod.
Planting grass seeds is very easy and can be done by anyone who
wants to make a lawn in the yard, but choosing a right type of grass
seed is very important. Seeds have many advantages over sod, so
growing grass with the help of seeds holds more advantages then
growing it with the help of sod. If one chooses the right type of
grass seed, which resist drought and is free from diseases then it
will make a good lawn.
Planting grass seeds needs following steps to be followed; soil
should be dig around 2-3 inches deep, then unwanted particles like
stones shall be removed from the soil and soil should be cleaned. Big
clumps of soil should be broken down. To accumulate the sufficient
amount of water, the planting area should be level well. Disperse the
seeds well; make sure that seeds should be in good contact with the
soil so that it can germinate well. One should fertilize the seeds
well. Spreading seeds at a distance from each other will ensure space
for growth and availability of nutrients for other seeds as
well. Fertilized soil retains moisture content for better growth of
grass seeds.
Water the seeds once in a day until the seeds grow into grass of
about 2 inches long. Keep the soil wet by watering it regularly once
the grass is out. Growing grass from seed will also depend upon the
type of seed you are using, if you are using warm season seeds then
plant them in early summer or late spring, if you are using cool
season seeds then plant them early spring. Grass seeds grow in
particular temperature and require the favorable conditions, if
favorable conditions are not provided the seeds will not germinate
well.
There are many advantages of growing grass from seed, the
advantages are that the seeds are easily available and they are cheap
too as compare to sod, seeds are easier to plant and in the end the
seeds planted may result in a better lawn if compared to grass grown
with the help of sod. Any untrained person can grow grass with the
help of seeds by just simply scattering the seeds on the field and
then covering them with the soil. Seeds can be dispersed with hands in
small areas and tools can be used to scatter the seeds in large
areas.
Nothing can be more relaxing than growing grass from seed in your
field. Anyone can have their own garden, the only thing required is
that one should keep in mind the points given above before planting
the grass. Once the grass is planted, one should take care of it
afterwards as well. Take care about when the cutting is required,
proper watering on regular basis, moreover, pesticides shall also be
sprayed from time to time. Just follow these and have a wonderful
garden of your own.
