Grass can be grown with the help of seeds. In fact, it is much easier to grow grass with the help of seed then growing it with sod.

Planting grass seeds is very easy and can be done by anyone who wants to make a lawn in the yard, but choosing a right type of grass seed is very important. Seeds have many advantages over sod, so growing grass with the help of seeds holds more advantages then growing it with the help of sod. Planting grass seeds needs following steps to be followed; soil should be dig around 2-3 inches deep, then unwanted particles like stones shall be removed from the soil and soil should be cleaned. Big clumps of soil should be broken down. To accumulate the sufficient amount of water, the planting area should be level well. Disperse the seeds well; make sure that seeds should be in good contact with the soil so that it can germinate well. One should fertilize the seeds well. Spreading seeds at a distance from each other will ensure space for growth and availability of nutrients for other seeds as well. Fertilized soil retains moisture content for better growth of grass seeds.

Water the seeds once in a day until the seeds grow into grass of about 2 inches long. Keep the soil wet by watering it regularly once the grass is out. Growing grass from seed will also depend upon the type of seed you are using, if you are using warm season seeds then plant them in early summer or late spring, if you are using cool season seeds then plant them early spring. Grass seeds grow in particular temperature and require the favorable conditions, if favorable conditions are not provided the seeds will not germinate well.

There are many advantages of growing grass from seed, the advantages are that the seeds are easily available and they are cheap too as compare to sod, seeds are easier to plant and in the end the seeds planted may result in a better lawn if compared to grass grown with the help of sod. Any untrained person can grow grass with the help of seeds by just simply scattering the seeds on the field and then covering them with the soil. Seeds can be dispersed with hands in small areas and tools can be used to scatter the seeds in large areas.
